Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Saturday, 18 July inaugurated two 33/11 kV electricity substations in Ashoknagar district of Madhya Pradesh, a move expected to stabilise power supply across 12 villages of the Chanderi Assembly constituency. The facilities, built at a combined cost of approximately ₹4.40 crore, are projected to directly benefit around 15,000 residents by improving voltage levels and reducing frequent outages.

The two substations — located at Pathkheda and Madi-Mahidpur — were commissioned as part of broader efforts to strengthen rural electricity distribution networks in the region. Officials noted that power demand in these areas has risen sharply due to both agricultural and domestic consumption. Notably, the Pathkheda substation was completed within four months of its foundation stone being laid, which Scindia cited as a benchmark for faster infrastructure execution.

Addressing public meetings following the inauguration, Scindia emphasised that the Centre and the Madhya Pradesh state government were jointly prioritising basic infrastructure in rural areas to bolster agriculture and public services. He described farmer welfare as his foremost concern, stating: 'Wherever I may be in the country, the flag of Ashoknagar will always be with me.' He also urged farmers in the region to adopt natural farming practices alongside the improved power access.

Impact on Farmers and Rural Consumers

The new substations are expected to enhance electricity supply for both irrigation and domestic consumers in the affected villages. Scindia framed the inauguration not merely as an infrastructure milestone but, in his words, 'the beginning of a new chapter of prosperity for farmers.' The improved power infrastructure is expected to reduce crop losses linked to erratic supply and support round-the-clock irrigation pump operations.

Broader Infrastructure Push in Chanderi

Scindia also referenced the ongoing ₹550 crore Chanderi Micro Irrigation Project, which is expected to provide irrigation facilities to approximately 28,000 hectares of agricultural land spanning 121 villages. Taken together, the power and irrigation investments signal a sustained infrastructure focus on the Chanderi constituency ahead of what analysts note is a politically significant rural belt in central Madhya Pradesh. Public representatives and officials of the state power distribution company were present at the inauguration.
