Scindia lays foundation for ₹350 crore projects in Guna during four-day visit
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia concluded a four-day visit to his parliamentary constituency of Guna, Madhya Pradesh, inaugurating and laying foundation stones for development projects worth approximately ₹350 crore spanning energy, water conservation, railways, agriculture, health, and skill development. The visit, which took place ahead of 29 June, marked one of the most wide-ranging development pushes the district has seen in recent years.
Power Infrastructure Gets a Major Boost
The centrepiece of the visit was the foundation stone laid for a ₹278 crore electricity substation at Mudra Hanuman, which is expected to benefit more than 2,25,000 citizens across approximately 225 villages, accompanied by the laying of 100 kilometres of new power lines. Scindia said the facility would resolve persistent power outages and bring reliable electricity to millions of households.
Complementing this, he inaugurated the 4.5 MW Sangarner Solar Plant at Khutiawar, developed at a cost of ₹20 crore and projected to generate annual revenue of around ₹75 lakh. The Dhanwadi Electricity Sub-Centre, built at ₹2.18 crore, was also commissioned to strengthen rural electricity supply.
Water Conservation and River Rejuvenation
Scindia began his visit at the source of the Kuno River in Kanja village, where he planted a tree under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign — an initiative linked to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for environmental action. He also launched the 'Jal Ganga Sanvardhan Abhiyan', a public movement aimed at river conservation, and inaugurated a check dam in Chinera village built at a cost of ₹17.98 lakh.
A proposal of approximately ₹20 crore for the rejuvenation of the Kuno River is also being processed, which is expected to bring irrigation to around 1,800 hectares of agricultural land. Major water projects reviewed during the visit include the ₹267 crore Niwari Irrigation Project, the ₹100 crore Paneti Dam Project, the ₹100 crore Paldoria Project, and a Sindh River-based drinking water scheme.
Railways, Roads, and Agricultural Infrastructure
On the railway front, Scindia flagged off the Bina-Ruthiai-Bina MEMU train service from Guna railway station. He noted that a proposal to adjust train timings in line with passenger demand has been forwarded to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Three road projects totalling ₹11.64 crore — covering the Barkheda Gird-Durduru, Budhe Balaji-Hanuman Tekri, and Mahugura Phatak-Kapargari-Bujurg stretches — were inaugurated. The foundation for a new fruit and vegetable mandi at an estimated cost of ₹3 crore was also laid, aimed at strengthening agricultural market linkages for local farmers. Land patches were distributed to 160 beneficiaries in Bude Balaji during the visit.
Skill Development, Health, and Women Empowerment
A modern ITI building in Tilwara Marki Mahu, constructed at ₹14.74 crore, was inaugurated to expand vocational training for the district's youth. On the health front, Scindia highlighted that a 50-bed maternity ward, a 50-bed critical care unit, and a new 150-bed hospital building are under development in the district, alongside advanced equipment including MRI, bone density, and C-arm machines. The number of doctors in the district has reportedly risen from 40 to 56, with nursing staff numbers also increasing.
Scindia met beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Swanidhi Yojana and women from self-help groups, promising logistical support — including loading vehicles — for groups with an annual turnover exceeding ₹1 crore. The renovation of the historic Ram Janaki Temple in Patai village, at a cost of approximately ₹20 lakh, was also inaugurated as part of cultural heritage preservation efforts.
What Comes Next for Guna
Officials were directed to complete all major irrigation and drinking water projects on schedule. Scindia stated that development in the Guna Parliamentary Constituency is progressing at an 'unprecedented pace' under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. With large-scale energy, water, and health infrastructure in the pipeline, Guna's development trajectory over the next two to three years will be closely watched.
