Ujjain, Sep 8 (NationPress) The search for two police officers continues in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain as of Monday, after their police vehicle tragically fell into the swollen Shipra River.
The body of SHO Ashok Sharma, who was also in the vehicle, was retrieved from the river following a 12-hour search operation that concluded Sunday morning. Sharma served at the Unhel Police Station in Ujjain district.
The two missing officers are identified as Sub-Inspector (SI) Madanlal Ninama and Constable Aarti Pal.
According to officials, rescue teams from SDERF, NDRF, and Home Guards are actively conducting search efforts using boats, sonar, and underwater cameras across a 5 km stretch of the river on Monday.
Home Guard Commandant Santosh Kumar Jat, part of the rescue team, informed IANS that around four to five boats along with nearly 65 personnel, including divers, boatmen, and members of SDRF and Home Guards, are engaged in the ongoing search operation.
"We are conducting the search and rescue operation across an approximate five-kilometre stretch of the Shipra River, supported by our Home Guard and SDRF teams, with assistance from the NDRF team. This operation commenced late Sunday night and has continued into today," Jat elaborated.
In a tragic turn of events, a vehicle carrying three police personnel fell into the swollen Shipra River in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain district after losing control on a bridge, said a police official.
The incident occurred on Saturday around 9 pm, when the three officers - Unhel police station in-charge, Ashok Sharma, Sub-Inspector Madanlal, and Aarti Pal - were in the area for a case investigation.
While returning to Unhel, approximately 50 km from the district headquarters, their vehicle plunged into the river. Their phones have been unresponsive since Saturday night, with the last known location indicating the Shipra bridge.
The vehicle fell from the bridge, which lacked railings, according to City Superintendent of Police Pushpa Prajapati.
