New Delhi, July 3 (NationPress) Former Samajwadi Party MP S.T. Hasan has proposed the establishment of a dedicated 'Kanwar Path'—a special route solely for Kanwariyas—to alleviate the disturbances experienced during the yearly Kanwar Yatra.

Hasan emphasized that this pathway should extend from Haridwar to Moradabad and on to Bareilly, facilitating uninterrupted travel for pilgrims while minimizing the disruptions for local residents.

"The Kanwar Yatra is a significant religious pilgrimage, which is undeniable. However, the loud music from DJs during the event causes nearby windows to shake. Individuals with heart conditions struggle to cope with the noise, and passing vehicles feel the vibrations from the sound," Hasan shared with IANS, expressing his worries over the increasing noise levels during the procession.

He referenced the Supreme Court's regulations regarding allowable sound levels, asserting, “The Uttar Pradesh government has mandated that DJs adhere to the 60-decibel cap as specified by the Supreme Court. If they comply, that’s acceptable. Yet, we also require a sustainable solution for the rising number of Kanwariyas and the stress it places on public thoroughfares.”

Hasan stated that the envisioned “Kanwar Path” would honor the spiritual sentiments of the devotees while simultaneously reducing tensions between pilgrims and everyday commuters.

His comments come in light of the recent orders issued by the three BJP-led states—Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Delhi—to temporarily shutter meat shops and require the display of names and licenses on food carts.

The opposition has criticized the BJP-led states for perceived religious favoritism and has questioned the constitutionality of such measures.

In addition to his observations regarding the Yatra, the former MP reinforced the Samajwadi Party’s unwavering support for senior leader Azam Khan.

“The Samajwadi Party is committed to advocating for Azam Khan and stands in solidarity with him,” Hasan proclaimed, demonstrating allegiance to the beleaguered Rampur leader, who is facing numerous legal challenges.

Notably, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav inaugurated his new residence and office in Azamgarh, UP, on Thursday.

Point of View

It is crucial to recognize the balance between respecting religious practices and maintaining public order. S.T. Hasan's proposal for a separate Kanwar Path demonstrates a thoughtful approach to addressing the challenges that arise during the Kanwar Yatra, ensuring that both devotees and local communities can coexist harmoniously.
