Hyderabad, April 18 (NationPress) Intense rainfall, coupled with fierce winds, struck numerous areas in Hyderabad and its vicinity on Friday, disrupting daily life.
The significant pre-monsoon downpour during the evening hours brought some respite from the heat, yet it caused considerable inconvenience by halting vehicular movement and interrupting power supply.
These rains resulted in water accumulation on roads at busy intersections, causing traffic congestions. Commuters returning from work found themselves stuck.
Strong winds uprooted several trees, further complicating the power outage situation.
An electric transformer was damaged when a large tree fell on it in the Red Hills region of Nampally. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported.
A tree obstructed the road near PG Law College in Basheerbagh, leading to another traffic jam. Additional trees fell between Upper and Lower Tank Bund, creating further delays.
In Bapunagar colony at Langar Houz, two electricity poles were damaged due to a fallen tree.
A crane at a construction site in the bustling Moazzamjahi Market area also toppled due to the strong winds, but fortunately, no injuries occurred.
Several regions including the old city, central city, Secunderabad, and Cyberabad experienced heavy rainfall.
Traffic was severely congested from Begumpet to Panjagutta, a vital road linking Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
A considerable traffic jam was also noted in Madhapur, within the Cyberabad IT hub, where vehicles crawled at the IKEA underpass and Raidurgam. Employees returning from IT companies in HITEC City and Gachibowli found themselves stuck in the traffic.
Rainwater and overflowing drains led to road inundation, posing challenges for traffic police in managing the situation.
According to the Telangana Development Planning Society, the Bandlaguda area recorded the highest rainfall at eight centimeters, followed by Bahadurpura with 7.8 cm and Charminar with 7.6 cm. Rainfall measured 7 cm in Nampally, 5 cm in Amberpet, and 4.4 cm in Khairatabad.
