Amit Shah to launch 30 projects worth ₹1,024 crore in Gandhinagar on Nov 9
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for 30 development projects worth ₹1,024 crore in the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency on 9 November 2026. The projects span housing, water infrastructure, and civic amenities, and will be executed by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).
Key Developments
AMC Standing Committee Chairman Kamlesh Patel confirmed the event while addressing reporters after the corporation's weekly Standing Committee meeting on Thursday, 5 November. Patel stated the initiatives are aimed at improving infrastructure and civic facilities across the constituency, which Shah represents in the Lok Sabha.
The projects include housing initiatives, water-related works, and other public facilities for residents. The announcement signals a concentrated infrastructure push by the civic body ahead of the festive season.
Diwali Preparedness by AMC
Patel also outlined the corporation's operational readiness for the Diwali festival. The AMC has directed sanitation workers to collect and clear firecracker waste from roads overnight, ensuring streets remain clean through the day.
The fire brigade has been placed on full alert throughout the festive period, with personnel on standby to respond promptly to any emergency. Municipal hospital staff will similarly remain available to provide immediate medical assistance in the event of any untoward incident.
Make in India Toy Trains at Kankaria Lake
In a separate development, the AMC is set to introduce two indigenously manufactured toy trains at the popular Kankaria Lake attraction in Ahmedabad. The existing toy train — popularly called Atal Express — was introduced in 2008 and was originally imported at a cost of approximately ₹8 crore.
The two new trains have been procured using locally developed technology at a combined cost of just ₹3.59 crore, representing significant savings and aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' and 'Make in India' vision. Trial runs for both trains have been completed successfully, though police verification and certain administrative formalities remain pending.
According to Patel, the trains are expected to be launched for visitors during the Diwali festivities, subject to completion of the remaining procedures.
What to Watch
The 9 November inauguration by Amit Shah in his home constituency will be closely watched as a signal of the Centre's commitment to urban infrastructure in Gujarat. With ₹1,024 crore in projects on the line, the event is likely to draw significant political and civic attention ahead of the festive period.
