Thane, April 30 (NationPress) NCP-SP leader Sharad Pawar expressed his support on Wednesday for the Congress' call for a special parliamentary session regarding the Pahalgam terror attack.
“Our coalition partners have urged for a dedicated session. This gathering would effectively convey to the world that following this terror incident, all of India—its political factions and society—stands united,” Pawar stated while addressing journalists in Thane after the inauguration of the newly built goddess Tulajabhavani temple by NCP-SP MLA Jitendra Awhad.
The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, along with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, has already sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting a special Parliament session.
When questioned about the terrorists inquiring about the victims' religion, Pawar reiterated that the Pahalgam attack constitutes an assault on the nation.
“The families of those martyred in this incident have made sacrifices for our country. Hence, issues of religion, caste, and language should not be discussed at this time. If any forces are targeting Indians, we must unite as countrymen without any expectations. We fully endorse any measures taken by the Prime Minister and his colleagues in response,” he remarked.
Pawar had previously warned the Centre about potential retaliatory actions against Pakistan, emphasizing that any response should be meticulously thought out, as Islamabad is unlikely to remain passive.
“While we may decide on actions today, Pakistan will likely respond tomorrow. I doubt that they will remain silent,” he cautioned.
Later, Jayant Patil, the NCP-SP state chief, expressed that the nation anticipates robust actions from the Central government.
“For years, there has been a significant demand from Indians to reclaim Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Strong action is imperative, and as the opposition, we endorse any measures against Pakistan,” Patil stated.
