New Delhi, Aug 4 (NationPress) Shibu Soren, the former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and a pivotal figure in founding the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), has sadly passed away. His son, CM Hemant Soren, shared the news on Monday.

Shibu Soren succumbed to illness at a hospital in Delhi, at the age of 81.

The Sir Ganga Ram Hospital confirmed his death at 8:56 a.m. on Monday.

According to the hospital's statement, "He passed away after a prolonged illness. He had been grappling with a kidney ailment and suffered a stroke a month and a half ago. For the past month, he was dependent on a life support system."

Soren was admitted to the Sri Ganga Ram Hospital in the national capital for over a month due to complications related to his kidneys. He was under the care of Dr. A.K. Bhalla, the Chairman of Nephrology, alongside a specialized team from Neurology and ICU.

Known affectionately as "Guruji" or "Dishom Guru" in Jharkhand, Soren held the position of Chief Minister three times, in the years 2005, 2008-2009, and 2009-2010. His terms were often brief due to various political hurdles.

He was born on January 11, 1944, in Nemra village, then part of Bihar (now in Jharkhand). Shibu Soren hailed from the Santal (Santhal) tribal community.

At the age of 18, he founded the Santhal Navyuvak Sangh, an organization aimed at tribal liberation and land rights.
