New Delhi, Aug 4 (NationPress) President Droupadi Murmu voiced her heartfelt condolences regarding the death of former Jharkhand Chief Minister and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) founder, Shibu Soren, stating that his passing represents a significant loss in the arena of social justice.

Shibu Soren departed this life at the age of 81 in Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, following a lengthy illness.

In a post on X, President Murmu remarked, "The passing of Shri Shibu Soren Ji is a substantial loss in the realm of social justice. He was a strong advocate for tribal identity and played a crucial role in the establishment of Jharkhand. Alongside his grassroots work, he served as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, a Union Minister, and a Member of Parliament."

"His dedication to the welfare of the populace, particularly the tribal communities, will not be forgotten. I offer my deepest sympathies to his son and current Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Shri Hemant Soren Ji, his family, and all his admirers," she further added.

Affectionately known as "Guruji" or "Dishom Guru" in his native state, Shibu Soren was instrumental in the movement for tribal rights and significantly contributed to the creation of Jharkhand as an independent state.

Born on January 11, 1944, in Nemra village, which was part of Bihar (now Jharkhand), Shibu Soren hailed from the Santal tribal community.

His tenure as Chief Minister of Jharkhand spanned three terms—initially in 2005, followed by 2008-2009, and again in 2009-2010. Unfortunately, his terms were often brief due to political instability.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his condolences on Shibu Soren's passing, labeling him a grassroots leader who devoted himself to public service with an unwavering commitment to the people.

On X, PM Modi wrote, "Shri Shibu Soren Ji was a grassroots leader who ascended through public life with steadfast dedication to the people. He was especially passionate about empowering tribal communities, the impoverished, and the marginalized."

"I am saddened by his passing. My thoughts are with his family and followers. I spoke to Jharkhand CM Shri Hemant Soren Ji to extend my condolences. Om Shanti," he concluded.

Point of View

One must acknowledge his significant contributions to social justice and tribal rights in India.
