Mumbai, April 17 (NationPress) The Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena on Thursday accused the Shiv Sena UBT chief Uddhav Thackeray of hijacking the Shiv Sena by emotionally blackmailing Balasaheb Thackeray during a crucial leadership transition.
Shiv Sena MP and spokesman Naresh Mhaske claimed that Uddhav Thackeray had threatened to leave the Thackeray household when Balasaheb was considering entrusting party leadership to figures such as Raj Thackeray, Ganesh Naik, and Narayan Rane.
“He employed similar pressure tactics with Narayan Rane to solidify his authority,” he added.
Mhaske recounted that Raj Thackeray had previously expressed willingness to lead the party in areas where Shiv Sena faced challenges, and that Balasaheb was prepared to place his trust in him - until Uddhav Thackeray intervened.
“It was emotional blackmail that compelled Balasaheb to cede power to Uddhav,” he alleged.
Mhaske also criticized the Uddhav faction for allegedly manipulating Balasaheb’s legacy through altered videos and forged statements.
“You exploit Balasaheb’s voice because you lack the bravery to directly challenge Eknath Shinde or Devendra Fadnavis,” he stated.
Discussing electoral results, Mhaske noted that Uddhav Thackeray’s group contested 100 seats and won just 20, whereas the Shinde-led Shiv Sena contested 80 and secured 60.
“The electorate has made it evident who genuinely carries Balasaheb’s legacy,” he asserted.
He also forecasted defections: “Mark my words - within a month, many who participated in your Nashik rally will abandon your side,” he warned.
In defense of the recent meeting between Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and MNS Chief Raj Thackeray, Mhaske stated their ideological connection is founded on Balasaheb’s vision.
“The meeting made some individuals uneasy - but the reality is, both leaders share the same fundamental values. It’s ironic that those who previously opposed Congress now seek its assistance,” he concluded.
Mhaske demanded accountability regarding multiple corruption scandals. “You intentionally postponed municipal elections and managed scams—from body bags to khichdi to Patra Chawl redevelopment. When will you provide answers?” he questioned.
