Mumbai, Oct 6 (NationPress) NCP SP president Sharad Pawar expressed his strong disapproval of the recent shoe-throwing incident directed at the Chief Justice of India, B R Gavai. He emphasized that this act transcends a mere assault on the judiciary; it represents a serious affront to democracy, the Constitution, and the nation as a whole.

“The toxicity spreading throughout our nation shows a blatant disregard for our esteemed constitutional institutions. This incident serves as a warning for our country. I unequivocally condemn this act and reaffirm my dedication to preserving the foundational pillars of Indian democracy under any circumstances,” Pawar articulated on X.

He further elaborated that the judiciary's role is to maintain the principles of democracy and the Constitution, ensuring that discussions and differences lead to just and fair outcomes.

“An assault on the Chief Justice within the highest judicial institution is not just an attack on the judiciary; it is a profound insult to our democracy, our Constitution, and our nation,” he asserted.

Pawar's comments followed an incident where a lawyer attempted to throw a shoe at the Chief Justice earlier that day. The shoe missed the bench, and the individual was swiftly apprehended.

In response to the shocking courtroom event, Chief Justice Gavai remarked, "I am the last person to be disturbed by such things," and resumed the hearing.

Veteran jurist Indira Jaising, in a post on X, called for a thorough investigation into the incident. She stated, "The lawyer must be identified, and appropriate legal action should be taken. This incident seems to be a blatant casteist attack on the Supreme Court of India and warrants a unified condemnation from all Supreme Court judges. In keeping with the court's dignity, CJI Gavai conducted judicial proceedings without any visible disturbance," she added.
