Bengaluru/New Delhi, Oct 6 (NationPress) Union Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Pralhad Joshi has vehemently denounced the assault on the Chief Justice of India. In response to the incident, he remarked, “The attack on Supreme Court Chief Justice B.R. Gavai is unacceptable. Such actions have no place in our society and are contrary to the Constitution. Even while under attack, Justice Gavai maintained his composure and grace. This has further elevated the stature of the judiciary.”
Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara expressed his disapproval via X, stating, “I strongly condemn the incident where an advocate threw a shoe at the Honorable Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, B.R. Gavai. This shoe-throwing incident is a serious affront to our nation’s judicial system and the Constitution.”
Justice B.R. Gavai, who comes from a marginalized background, has ascended through education to attain one of the most esteemed roles in the country. The religious extremists of the so-called Sanatan culture have revealed their malicious mindset within the Supreme Court premises, he added.
Parameshwara emphasized, “Judges are the guardians of our nation’s democratic framework and Constitution. By throwing a shoe at a judge, the advocate has insulted the entire judicial system. I earnestly call for stringent legal action against the lawyer involved, ensuring the dignity of the judiciary is preserved.”
Minister for RDPR, IT, and BT Priyank Kharge remarked, “Today, the advocates of 'Manuvad' have thrown a shoe at none other than the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. This is not just an assault on an individual; it’s an assault on justice itself, an attack on the Constitution.”
He continued, “There is no need to explicitly name those who foster such a 'Manuvad' mentality. This act transcends a mere shoe attack; it’s a terroristic assault on constitutional values by the fundamentalists of 'Manuvad'.”
This incident serves as yet another illustration of the intolerance 'Manuvadis' harbor towards the Constitution and the ongoing oppression of the marginalized, even when one of them has achieved the highest constitutional office in the country. Today, we have received unmistakable evidence of our fear that 'the Constitution is in peril,' Kharge remarked.
“Is the governance of this nation aligned with the values of the Constitution, or is it being dictated by the 'Manusmriti' propagated by the RSS? Will the Central Government take accountability for this incident?” Kharge questioned.
This unprecedented act has occurred in our nation’s history. This dark mark of the 'Manuvadis' cannot be erased, he asserted.
A dramatic scene unfolded at the Supreme Court on Monday as an elderly man attempted to hurl a shoe at Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai during a court session. However, the shoe fell short of the bench, and security promptly subdued the individual.
Unperturbed by the disruption, Chief Justice Gavai addressed the court, stating, “I am the last person to be affected by such actions,” before the proceedings continued as planned.
Eyewitnesses indicated that the incident happened shortly after the day’s initial case was heard. The man, later identified as Kishore Rakesh via a proximity card typically issued to lawyers and clerks, reportedly shouted slogans like, “India won’t tolerate Sanatan’s insult,” before attempting to throw the shoe. His motives remain unclear, and security agencies are currently interrogating him.
This shocking incident followed criticisms aimed at Chief Justice B.R. Gavai over a comment he made last week during a hearing on a public interest plea regarding the restoration of a damaged idol of Lord Vishnu in Khajuraho. While dismissing the plea, Gavai allegedly stated, “Go and ask the deity himself to intervene,” a remark that ignited considerable outrage on social media.
In response to the controversy, Chief Justice Gavai clarified, “I was informed that my comments were misrepresented on social media. I hold all religions in high regard.”
