Kolkata, March 27 (NationPress) Tension has escalated in Bhatpara, part of the Barrackpore Police Commissionerate in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district, following a shooting incident in front of Arjun Singh's residence, a former BJP Lok Sabha member.
The violent episode occurred late Wednesday night, involving the throwing of crude bombs and gunfire.
One individual, known as Saddam, suffered injuries from a bullet during this gang altercation and is currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital. He is recognized as an associate of the local Trinamool Congress.
Authorities have stated that the situation is now under control. A senior police officer remarked, 'No one linked to this disturbance will be exempt from action.'
A notice has been sent to Singh, instructing him to appear at the Jagatdal Police Station on Thursday.
In the meantime, a political debate has erupted between the ruling Trinamool Congress and the opposition BJP regarding the gang conflict and shooting. Singh has alleged that individuals affiliated with the ruling party are closely connected to Somanth Shyam, the legislator from the Jagatdal Assembly constituency, and Namit Singh, the son of a local ruling party councillor.
“I was present with my team to mediate a dispute between two factions of workers from a local Meghna Jute Mill. Unexpectedly, supporters of the ruling party, led by Namit Singh, arrived and initiated a confrontation with us. Out of nowhere, their group began throwing bombs and firing at us. I narrowly escaped,” Singh described.
However, Somanth Shyam denied the accusations, asserting that it was Singh who incited his followers to attack the ruling party members. He also alleged that Singh himself fired shots during the chaos.
A significant police presence has been deployed in the region to maintain order.
This incident is not an isolated case; there have been previous occurrences of violence near Singh's home. In October of last year, Singh sustained injuries from a bomb splinter following an alleged attack by local Trinamool Congress activists. He accused Shyam and Namit Singh of orchestrating the assault.
