Has the Congress Central Leadership Addressed the Leadership Issue? Siddaramaiah Responds
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Haveri, Feb 14 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, expressed frustration on Saturday over persistent media inquiries regarding a potential shift in leadership, urging reporters to refrain from discussing the topic. He made these comments to the press in Haveri prior to a large event celebrating the completion of 1,000 days of the Congress-led administration in the state.
When asked about the rumored power struggle, Siddaramaiah responded with irritation, stating, "I have already made it clear that I will respect the decision of the high command. I have requested the media to stop questioning me about this issue. Why do you continue to press on? In such cases, one must adhere to the high command's directive. All our leaders should comply with its decision."
Addressing inquiries regarding repeated comments from Congress legislators on this topic, he said, "Has the high command released any statement or posted anything on social media concerning leadership?"
In response to a question about his son, Congress MLC Yathindra, who mentioned that he would serve his full term, Siddaramaiah replied angrily, "I will only follow the high command's decision. Now, please refrain from asking further questions."
When queried whether he would meet with the Congress central leadership after the Shivaratri festival, Siddaramaiah replied, "I will attend when they summon me, that's all."
During his remarks on the completion of 1,000 days in office, he stated, "We have fulfilled our promises. Celebrating 1,000 days is not merely a milestone. Our efforts have been directed towards empowering the poor, women, backward classes, and Dalits socially and economically. We will continue this path and uphold our commitments in the future as well."
When asked about the BJP labeling the 1,000-day mark as a day of mourning rather than celebration, Siddaramaiah remarked, "The BJP's opposition stems from pure jealousy."
He continued, "The media should inquire about what the BJP accomplished during its tenure. In 2018, they made 600 promises but were unable to fulfill even 10 percent of them. What moral standing do they have to critique us?"
Siddaramaiah pointed out that out of 592 commitments made by his government, 243 have been achieved in just two-and-a-half years. "We will continue to strive to meet the remaining commitments. The allegations from BJP leaders are baseless," he asserted.
Discussing the Bedti-Varada river link project, Siddaramaiah stated, "We have prepared the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and submitted it to the Government of India. However, we lack confidence that the Centre will act on it."
Regarding the contentious caste census, he mentioned, "The report is expected to be submitted this month or next. The government will decide based on the report."
