Sikkim Chief Minister Reviews Preparations for Maghey Mela

Gangtok, Dec 13 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Sikkim, Prem Singh Tamang, presided over a crucial meeting to discuss the festivities for the upcoming Jorethang Makar Sankranti Maghey Mela at the Community Hall in Jorethang, located in the Namchi district, on Friday, as per official sources.
In his address, the Chief Minister underscored the necessity to elevate the Makar Sankranti Maghey Mela to unprecedented heights, with the goal of boosting the visibility of both the state and the town of Jorethang. He urged attendees to celebrate the event traditionally while simultaneously integrating modern entertainment elements to draw in a larger crowd.
A pivotal suggestion was to arrange a full day dedicated to rural sports and festivities during the Mela's opening and closing days. These activities are set to feature traditional games such as high jumping, cycling, pillow fighting, and tug of war, alongside various attractions aimed at engaging both locals and visitors alike.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the significance of cultural activities, which will take place throughout the day to celebrate the state's rich traditions and heritage.
Additionally, he proposed that the Chief Minister’s Gold Cup Tournament be held annually in conjunction with the Makar Sankranti Maghey Mela in Jorethang, fostering community spirit and sportsmanship.
He called upon all participants and departments to collaborate effectively to guarantee the event's success.
MLA Madan Cintury, representing the Zoom-Salghari constituency, presented a detailed report regarding the upcoming Makar Sankranti Maghey Mela, stressing the importance of celebrating the Mela in a peaceful and traditional manner.
He pointed out that the Sandhya Aarti would take place on the inaugural day of the Mela in the designated area, which is anticipated to attract a significant number of pilgrims and visitors from nearby regions.
The legislator also mentioned that the Bangay Bazaar would be a major draw, showcasing a variety of organic foods and sustainable products. He encouraged all relevant departments to put forth their best efforts for the upcoming event.
