Sisodia Denounces LG's Alleged Approval for Kejriwal's Prosecution as False

New Delhi, Dec 21 (NationPress) Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister, Manish Sisodia has decisively countered assertions stating that Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena has granted permission for the prosecution of AAP National Convener and ex-Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal concerning the alleged liquor policy fraud.

In a message posted on X on Saturday, Sisodia mentioned, “If LG Saxena has indeed sanctioned the prosecution of Arvind Kejriwal, then why hasn't the ED produced the document of that permission? It is evident that this information is false and misleading. Cease making baseless claims to distract from the issue of disrespect towards Babasaheb Ambedkar. Prove where the sanction for prosecution exists.”

Previously, reports indicated that LG Saxena had accepted the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) request to pursue prosecution against Kejriwal under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) related to the liquor policy controversy.

The alleged liquor policy fraud stands as one of the most significant accusations leveled by the Opposition BJP against the Kejriwal-led AAP administration.

While a PMLA case is already underway against Kejriwal, the trial has not yet commenced. Following a Supreme Court order necessitating the LG's consent for prosecuting public officials in such matters, the ED reportedly sought approval via the Chief Secretary.

In March, the ED arrested Kejriwal on allegations of money laundering tied to the scandal. He was released on bail in September after several months in custody. Post-release, Kejriwal stepped down as Delhi's Chief Minister and pledged to return only after securing victory in the 2025 Assembly elections.

Sisodia, who has also encountered legal challenges in the liquor policy scandal, was granted bail in August after spending 18 months in detention. The court referenced his right to a speedy trial in its ruling.

The ED has accused both Kejriwal and Sisodia of modifying the Excise Policy 2021-22 to benefit a ‘South lobby’ in exchange for a bribe totaling Rs 100 crore. Reportedly, the AAP utilized Rs 45 crore for campaigning in the Goa elections, as per ED sources.

Kejriwal has appealed to the Delhi High Court to annul the charge sheet, resulting in a notice being issued to the ED on Friday.
