Mumbai, Jan 31 (NationPress) The Maharashtra government announced the establishment of a special investigation team (SIT) on Friday to investigate a conspiracy allegedly orchestrated to implicate Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis (who served as the leader of opposition in the state assembly at the time) and his current deputy Eknath Shinde in a fabricated case during the tenure of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government.

During that period, Fadnavis was the Leader of Opposition in the assembly, while Shinde was part of the Uddhav Thackeray Cabinet, overseeing the urban development ministry. Following Shinde's rebellion against Thackeray, he assumed the role of Chief Minister in June 2022, with Fadnavis as his deputy.

The SIT will be led by Satyanarayan Chaudhary, joint commissioner (Law and Order) of Mumbai Police, and will include Rajiv Jain, DIG SRPF, Navnath Dhavale, Mumbai Police DCP Zone 6, and Adhik Rao Pol, ACP. The team has been instructed to present its findings to the government within 30 days.

BJP legislator Pravin Darekar raised the matter during a point of information in the upper state council during the winter session in Nagpur.

Darekar called for an SIT investigation into the alleged conspiracy. In response, Cabinet Minister Shambhuraj Desai, on behalf of the MahaYu government, acknowledged the severity of the issue and confirmed the formation of an SIT led by a senior IPS officer to investigate the claims.

Darekar mentioned that audio clips allegedly connected to the conspiracy were broadcast on television channels. He also stated he possessed a pen drive containing an audio clip of an alleged conversation between former Maharashtra director general of police Sanjay Pandey and then-ACP Laxmikant Patil.

In this clip, Pandey is reportedly heard instructing Patil, who was stationed in nearby Thane, to initiate a case and arrest Fadnavis and Shinde, who now serves as deputy CM in the MahaYuti government.

Previously, Fadnavis claimed in August that the former MVA government had conspired to arrest him on false charges “not just once but four times.”

Fadnavis, who was the Leader of Opposition during the MVA's governance, responded to allegations made by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh regarding attempts to implicate him in various cases.

“The assertions made by Parambir Singh regarding attempts to arrest me and BJP leaders are genuine. Such efforts occurred during the MVA administration. The former Mumbai Police chief has only recounted a single incident, but they endeavored to arrest me multiple times. A conspiracy was devised to detain me through false charges,” Fadnavis stated during a press conference.
