New Delhi, March 22 (NationPress) Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, is set to begin a three-day official trip to Singapore to engage in the ‘Singapore Maritime Week,’ as announced on Saturday.

This visit aims to strengthen maritime cooperation between India and Singapore, as Sonowal is expected to meet his Singaporean counterpart during a bilateral meeting at the event.

As part of his agenda, Sonowal will engage with leading figures in the maritime sector to discuss strategies for unlocking opportunities within the maritime industry, according to the ministry.

During the Singapore Maritime Week, he will also take part in a high-level dialogue themed ‘Navigating Global Maritime Trends in 2025 and Beyond.’

Moreover, the Union Minister will confer with senior officials of the Singapore government, including Lee Hsien Loong, Murali Pillai, and Dr. Amy Khor, among others.

Additionally, Sonowal will hold discussions with Brigit Gijsbers from the Netherlands during a bilateral session aimed at enhancing the maritime relationship between the two nations.

To incorporate best practices from the global maritime industry, he plans to meet industry leaders and corporate executives from Singapore and other countries during the Singapore Maritime Week.

He will also interact with the Indian diaspora and pay homage at the INA Memorial during his visit. A team of senior officials will accompany Sonowal throughout his official engagements.

In related news, the India Maritime Week, a significant global maritime event, will take place from October 27-31, celebrating the nation's ‘Maritime Virasat’ and ‘Maritime Vikas,’ as announced by the government.

Around 100,000 delegates from 100 countries are anticipated to attend the Maritime Week, which will feature the 4th edition of the Global Maritime India Summit (GMIS) and the 2nd edition of Sagarmanthan, among other events.
