Grid failures and transmission bottlenecks in three of Jharkhand's most industrially critical districts are now on a deadline. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren chaired a power department review meeting on Wednesday, 29 July 2026, and issued direct orders to district officials and forest authorities to resolve electricity infrastructure problems without delay.

Posting on X after the meeting, CM Soren said he had directed the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) — known as PCCF Wildlife — along with the Deputy Commissioners of Hazaribagh, Bokaro, and Dhanbad to act swiftly on issues affecting the state's power grids and transmission lines. The presence of the forest authority at an electricity review is not incidental. In mineral-rich eastern India, transmission line projects routinely stall waiting for wildlife and forest clearances — a structural friction between ecological protection and infrastructure expansion. By pulling the PCCF Wildlife into the same room as the power department and district commissioners, CM Soren is signalling that inter-departmental delays will no longer be treated as someone else's problem.

The three districts named are not random. Bokaro anchors Jharkhand's steel economy and carries some of the state's heaviest industrial power loads. Dhanbad, the coal capital, depends on reliable transmission for both mining operations and urban supply. Hazaribagh sits at a geographic crossroads for the state's grid network. The CM's directive extended beyond the three named districts: all Deputy Commissioners and relevant district officers across Jharkhand were told to complete pending power-sector work 'as soon as possible, within set timelines.' Review meetings that produce no accountability mechanism are common; ones that attach deadlines to named officers are harder to ignore.

The Jharkhand Power Department manages grid infrastructure across a state where forest cover, hilly terrain, and dispersed industrial clusters make transmission engineering genuinely difficult.
