New Delhi, Jan 28 (NationPress) The Centre's Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and the Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) have formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to encourage collaboration, mentorship, and support for startups in the region, as stated in an official announcement on Tuesday.

The agreement was signed during the "Jammu Kashmir Konnect", a dedicated startup initiative held at JKEDI's Baribrahamna campus, bringing together startups, incubators, and key stakeholders to explore innovation and growth prospects.

This MoU establishes a foundation for enhanced branding, outreach, and access to Startup India's ecosystem, promoting mentorship, knowledge sharing, and infrastructure support.

Moreover, it emphasizes market connections, funding networks, and international growth opportunities, in line with India's ambition of becoming a developed nation by 2047, as per the statement.

During the event, the Directors of DPIIT and JKEDI engaged in one-on-one discussions with all incubators, addressing their challenges, requirements, and future strategies.

This session offered a valuable opportunity for incubators to exchange insights, propose enhancements, and seek policy-level assistance to strengthen the startup ecosystem.

At the event, Rajinder Kumar Sharma, Director of JKEDI, emphasized the positive effects of the JK Startup Policy, which was launched in March 2024, resulting in over 250 new startup registrations on the DPIIT portal, bringing the total to 988 within a short timeframe.

He also highlighted the extensive outreach efforts by JKEDI, noting that in the current financial year, the institute has organized 601 Entrepreneurship Awareness Programs across universities, colleges, secondary schools, and IITs in 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir— all at no cost.

The "Jammu Kashmir Konnect" event, along with the MoU signing, represents a significant advancement in Jammu and Kashmir's startup ecosystem, guaranteeing that aspiring entrepreneurs receive the necessary mentorship, funding opportunities, and ecosystem support to succeed, as stated in the announcement.

Heads of Incubators from IIT-Jammu, IIM-Jammu, Jammu University, SKUAST-Jammu, Cluster University, and CIIIT Jammu, along with FICCI Flo, were present at the event.

Incubators from NIT-Srinagar, IUST University, SKUAST-Kashmir, and CIIIT Baramulla participated virtually.
