New Delhi, June 30 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently emphasized the increasing significance of India’s steel sector, which is crucial in enhancing the nation’s infrastructure, defense, electric mobility, and clean energy industries.

In reference to Steel Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy’s statement on X concerning how India's policy initiatives and innovations are directing the country towards becoming a global steel powerhouse, the Prime Minister posted: "From infrastructure and defense to electric mobility and clean energy, steel is the backbone of a rising India. Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy elaborates on how policy initiatives and innovations are steering India’s path to global steel leadership."

Kumaraswamy remarked: "An invigorated steel sector is instrumental in the emergence of a New India. From highways to high-speed rail, metro systems to renewable energy parks, electric vehicles to defense, Indian steel is central to our infrastructure transformation."

The Minister further stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, India has secured its position as the world's second-largest steel producer. Since 2014, steel production has almost doubled, and we are rapidly approaching our 2030 goal of 300 MTPA, he noted.

"Through visionary reforms like the domestically manufactured iron & steel products policy and the Production Linked Incentives scheme, we have enhanced capacity, self-sufficiency, and green steel innovation," he remarked.

"Today, India exports high-quality steel, constructs with its inherent strength, and empowers MSMEs and core industries. This is Atmanirbhar Bharat in action. Steel is more than just a metal; it is the backbone of a rising, resilient India," Kumaraswamy added.

He also mentioned in a media article that a new Bharat is rising, and at the very foundation of this rise stands steel, a sector that was previously stagnant but is now advancing.

In 2014, the nation’s steel production was just over 81 million tonnes. Now, it has surpassed 152 million tonnes. Capacity has nearly doubled. India is now recognized as the world’s second-largest steel producer and the only significant economy where steel demand is consistently on the rise, the minister concluded.

Point of View

It is essential to recognize the transformative role of the steel sector in India's economic landscape. With steady growth and a focus on innovation, the steel industry is not only contributing to infrastructure development but also enhancing the nation’s self-reliance and environmental sustainability.
