Raipur, April 18 (NationPress) In a significant advancement towards Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s goal of eradicating Maoist insurgency from India by March 2026, Badesetti Panchayat in Sukma district has been officially recognized as the first Maoist-free Panchayat in Chhattisgarh. This milestone was achieved following the surrender of 22 Maoists, including 11 from Badesetti, to security forces on Friday.

This development marks a pivotal moment in the government’s counter-insurgency and rehabilitation efforts. The mass surrender not only indicates a decline in Maoist influence but also strengthens HM Shah’s ambitious deadline as increasingly attainable.

On the same day, in Bijapur, security forces located and dismantled a Maoist camp during a coordinated operation.

As part of the new policy, Badesetti Panchayat will receive Rs 1 crore as a reward to support development initiatives.

With a total bounty of Rs 8.5 lakh on their heads, the surrendered Maoists will also benefit from additional government initiatives aimed at generating employment.

“A total of 22 Maoists, including 11 with rewards totaling Rs 40 lakh, have come forward to surrender in Sukma district. It is encouraging that these individuals now wish to reintegrate into society. We will strive to ensure their rehabilitation in accordance with regulations. As stated by Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah ji, the complete elimination of red terror from our country and state is assured by March 2026,” Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed on his X account.

This mass surrender is part of a wider trend of Maoists choosing to abandon violence under the government’s rehabilitation policy.

Among the 22 Maoists who have renounced violence in Sukma district is a couple, further underscoring the personal and societal impact of this initiative.

The goal of this initiative is to promote growth and stability in the region, ensuring that the Panchayat remains free from Maoist influence.

The surrendered individuals were previously engaged in the Maad and Nuapada Divisions.

Rewards of Rs 2 lakh each have been announced for three males and one female Maoist, while another has a bounty of Rs 50,000, as stated by an official.

Their choice to abandon violence is seen as a significant achievement for ongoing efforts to reduce Maoist activities.

In the meantime, security forces achieved another significant victory in Bijapur district, where they successfully dismantled a Maoist camp during an encounter.

This operation, part of the 'Maad Bachao Abhiyan' led by Narayanpur Police, resulted in the recovery of explosives, Rs 6 lakh in cash, and 11 laptops.

The encounter in the Kasod-Kumuradi forest of Kohkameta area forced senior Maoist leaders to flee, leaving behind crucial supplies. Reports indicate significant casualties and injuries among the Maoist ranks.
