Uttam Kumar Reddy, a prominent Congress leader and Telangana’s Minister for Irrigation and Civil Supplies, has urged political factions from both Telugu states to rally behind Justice B. Sudershan Reddy as the Opposition's nominee for the Vice-Presidential election in India.
The INDIA Bloc announced the former Supreme Court judge as its candidate for the upcoming vice-presidential election on Tuesday.
“We call upon all Telugu parties to support the candidacy of Justice Sudershan Reddy, a respected jurist, in the forthcoming election for Vice President,” Uttam Kumar Reddy conveyed via the social media platform X.
The ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) of Andhra Pradesh and Jana Sena are aligned with the BJP-led NDA, which has put forth C.P. Radhakrishnan, the Governor of Maharashtra and an RSS member, as its candidate.
The YSR Congress Party, under the leadership of Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, has yet to formally declare its position, although a party MP suggested backing the NDA candidate.
The YSRCP holds four seats in the Lok Sabha and seven in the Rajya Sabha.
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), led by former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, currently has no representation in the Lok Sabha but boasts four members in the Rajya Sabha.

Asaduddin Owaisi, the President of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and the sole MP from Telangana, is anticipated to support the INDIA Bloc candidate.
Meanwhile, Telangana's Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has praised the selection of Sudershan Reddy as the INDIA Bloc's nominee for the vice-presidential election.
“The description of ‘most distinguished and progressive jurist’ perfectly encapsulates Shri Justice (Retired) B. Sudershan Reddy, the INDIA Bloc's nominee for Vice President. All alliance partners are united in their support for Justice Sudershan Reddy in this election,” the Chief Minister stated on X.
CM Reddy expressed that AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge has offered a remarkable option for the Vice President's role to the Indian populace.
“Justice B.S. Reddy has dedicated years to the legal framework of our nation in numerous roles, including jurist, pleader, judge, Chief Justice in a High Court, and finally, as a Supreme Court Judge. If elected as Vice President, he will lead the Rajya Sabha with fervor, integrity, wisdom, and simplicity,” he remarked.
