Surat flood relief: 227 officials in 41 teams begin damage survey, ₹35 lakh disbursed
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Surat district authorities have deployed 227 government officials and employees across 41 survey teams to conduct door-to-door damage assessments in flood-hit localities, with relief payments of ₹35.21 lakh already reaching 1,185 beneficiaries as of 10 July. The large-scale exercise follows heavy rainfall and creek flooding that left several parts of the city waterlogged.
Scale of the Survey Operation
The assessment drive is being conducted under the supervision of Surat District Collector Tejas Parmar. A total of 22 Class I and Class II officers are overseeing the effort, supported by Deputy Mamlatdars, Revenue Talatis, coordinators and other staff drawn from Class I, II and III services. Teams have been instructed to begin work immediately in coordination with the Mamlatdars of their allotted talukas.
The survey covers losses across three categories: loss of life, personal injuries, and damage to movable and immovable property. Assistance being released includes cash doles, household aid and clothing support — with payments going out as soon as individual assessments are completed.
Relief Distributed So Far
By 1 pm on Friday, cash doles worth ₹11 lakh had been distributed to 701 residents in the Katargam, Puna, Majura, Abrama and Udhna areas. Household assistance of ₹24.20 lakh had additionally been paid to 484 people, bringing total disbursements to ₹35.21 lakh for 1,185 beneficiaries.
Area-Wise Deployment
In Limbayat, including Ratanjinagar and Mazda Park-1 and 2 societies, teams led by District Planning Officer Shital Mandaviya conducted assessments and distributed doles to eligible residents. In the Puna area, five teams under the District Education Officer are surveying localities including Dhanjivalli Mohollo, Padar Faliya, Khadi Faliya and Pipla Faliya in Kumbhariya, as well as New Colony in Saroli.
In Majura, four teams under Land Records Inspector D.M. Desai are covering Ambedkarnagar, Rasulabad, Azadnagar and Indiranagar. In Udhna, four teams under the District Planning Officer are assessing the Mithi Khadi area — spanning Islami Chowk, Raza Chowk, Bethi Colony, Kantinagar, Phulwadi and several other localities — along with parts of the Godadara area including Meera Nagar and Bhavani Society.
District Registrar Haresh Kachhad is overseeing five teams covering extensive portions of the Puna area, including Simada, Sarthana and Nana Varachha, across residential societies, commercial establishments and row house developments. Two teams under the District Registrar (Housing) are additionally surveying Khodiyar Nagar, Laxman Nagar, Kalyan Nagar, Laskana, Kathodara and Pasodara.
What Comes Next
The district administration has indicated that additional personnel will be deployed if required to ensure relief reaches all eligible flood-affected residents. The pace of disbursements is expected to accelerate as more survey teams complete their rounds across the remaining affected localities.
