Bhubaneswar, March 3 (NationPress) The Commissionerate Police have apprehended two individuals, including the proprietor of a tattoo establishment and the artist employed there, who inscribed a tattoo on the thigh of a foreign woman, igniting outrage in Odisha.
While addressing the media regarding the incident, ACP (Zone-5), Biswaranjan Senapati, mentioned on Sunday that one Subrat Kumar Mohanty from Bhubaneswar, along with his acquaintances, filed a complaint at the Saheed Nagar police station. They alleged that the owner of the studio 'Rocky Tattoos', situated in the Saheed Nagar area, had shared a photograph of a foreign woman bearing a tattoo of Lord Jagannath on her thigh on social media.
Moreover, he remarked that this is a sensitive issue and that the incident has offended the religious sentiments of the complainants, prompting them to request the police to take stringent actions against Rocky Ranjan Bisoi, the proprietor of the studio.
"During the investigation into the allegations, we discovered that on Saturday, a foreign woman visited the Rocky Tattoos studio to receive a tattoo. Subsequently, an artist there, acting on Rocky's instructions, inscribed the tattoo on the thigh of the foreigner. Rocky conducted a photoshoot of the foreign woman and shared those photos on his WhatsApp status," ACP Senapati added.
He also noted that the complainants, after spotting the photos on Rocky's WhatsApp status, lodged a complaint with the police.
"We have detained both Rocky and his artist Aswini Kumar Pradhan, who will be presented in court on Tuesday. They have been charged under Sections 299 (outraging religious feelings of any class), 196 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)," Senapati added.
The ACP further clarified that police will interrogate the foreign woman to understand the reasons behind etching the tattoo.
However, he dismissed the notion of taking any action against the woman, as it seems she was not aware of the laws and traditions surrounding Lord Jagannath.
Both the foreign woman and Rocky have already issued apologies for the incident in two separate videos, promising to remove the tattoo at the earliest.
