Gadag (Karnataka), April 21 (NationPress) - A tragic incident involving a physical education instructor and accomplished Kabaddi player has emerged from Gadag district in Karnataka. The individual, identified as 29-year-old Saira Banu Nadaf, took her own life due to the relentless harassment and blackmailing by her former boyfriend.

Residing in Asundi village near Gadag city, Saira was set to marry another man on May 8, as arranged by her family.

In a poignant death note, Saira revealed that her ex-lover had tormented her with threats involving personal photos and videos.

The note expressed, “The mistake that led to my demise was loving a boy named Mailari. We ended our relationship five years ago, but recently reconnected through Instagram.”

“He celebrated my birthday and promised to care for me. However, he has since used my images to harass me. Hence, I have made this tragic decision. I hope my parents are not troubled by this. Please forgive me.”

Women’s rights organizations have reacted strongly, demanding stringent legal measures against blackmailers, highlighting the ongoing victimization of women in the name of love.

The police reported that Saira was previously in a relationship with Mailari, and after their breakup, she had consented to marry a man chosen by her family.

With wedding preparations underway, she took her life by hanging at home while her family was out shopping.

Saira was a significant support for her family, serving as a physical education teacher and a talented athlete, having represented Karnataka at the national level in Kabaddi, earning numerous accolades.

Mailari allegedly intensified his blackmail as the wedding date approached, leading to her tragic decision out of fear for her family’s honor.

Saira Banu's family is advocating for the death penalty for Mailari.

The Gadag Rural Police have initiated a case and are actively searching for the accused.
