Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday, 25 May announced an ambitious plan to elevate one crore women to millionaire status by 2034, unveiling a comprehensive package of economic empowerment measures at Hyderabad. The announcements span transport, banking, retail, energy, and food procurement — positioning women's self-help groups as full-scale business operators rather than subsistence-level earners.

Key Announcements

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy declared that 553 buses owned by women's self-help groups will be flagged off at Parade Grounds on 5 June. This is part of a broader plan to facilitate the purchase of 1,000 buses through women's self-help groups, which will subsequently be leased to the state's Road Transport Corporation (RTC).

The bank-linkage loan limit for women's self-help groups is being doubled — raised from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh. The government has already facilitated bank-linkage loans totalling ₹60,472 crore for women's groups and disbursed ₹1,390 crore under interest-free loan schemes.

Indira Gandhi Stree Shakti Bhavans and Infrastructure

The Chief Minister virtually laid the foundation stone for 8,000 Indira Gandhi Stree Shakti Bhavans — Women's Empowerment Centres — to be established across the state. These centres are intended to serve as hubs for organising, training, and scaling up women-led enterprises at the grassroots level.

Additionally, a scheme to set up rice mills, warehouses at the mandal level, and logistics parks run by women's groups has been launched, with the stated objective of integrating women's collectives into the full food-grain supply chain — from paddy procurement to milling and supply to the government.

Mahila Shakti Super Bazaars and Energy

The government has announced plans to establish Mahila Shakti Super Bazaars, modelled on corporate retail chains, to be run by women's self-help groups. The state has said it will lease land at concessional rates in urban areas for these outlets and will itself act as a stakeholder, ensuring that quality agricultural produce, organic goods, and daily essentials reach consumers directly from farmers.

In the energy sector, women's groups are to be involved in setting up 1,000 megawatts of solar energy plants, directly competing with large corporations. Women's groups have also been made partners in the petrol pump business sector, further broadening the scope of economic participation.

Free Travel Scheme and Financial Outlay

Revanth Reddy recalled that within two days of assuming office, the government had introduced free travel for women on RTC buses, under which the state has so far reimbursed the RTC approximately ₹10,000 crore. He urged women's groups to move beyond small-scale livelihood activities and venture into larger businesses, describing 'Mahila Shakti' as a model the entire nation should emulate.

Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, ministers Seethakka, Sridhar Babu, and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Rajya Sabha member Vem Narender Reddy, and Government Advisor Harkara Venugopal were among those present. The full implementation timeline for several schemes is yet to be detailed.
