Hyderabad, Oct 13 (NationPress) The government of Telangana has allocated Rs 40.53 lakh to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for the pre-feasibility study of the planned greenfield airport at Anthergaon in the Peddapalli district.
The Department of Transport, Roads, and Buildings (Airports) issued a Government Order (GO), granting administrative approval for this funding.
The GO states that the state government has envisioned six regional airports and has designated AAI to conduct consultancy services for the creation of Techno-Economic Feasibility Reports (TEFRs) for these airports. Following AAI's assessment that the site at Basanthnagar in Peddapalli was unfeasible, the Collector proposed an alternative location comprising 591.24 acres in Anthergaon mandal and submitted the necessary documentation.
As per the GO, AAI has communicated to the government that the consultancy fee for the pre-feasibility study for each site is Rs 40,52,946. Subsequently, the Finance Department issued a Budget Release Order (BRO) for Rs 40.53 lakh on August 8.
Expressing gratitude for the government order, Peddapalli MP G. Vamshi Krishna hailed it as a pivotal moment in advancing the project. He mentioned that he has been tirelessly advocating for this initiative with the residents of Peddapalli for the past two years.
The MP is optimistic that the airport will serve the residents of Peddapalli, SCCL employees, students, and the local business community by offering direct air connectivity, thus reducing long journeys to Hyderabad. This development is also expected to unlock new economic and industrial prospects for the area.
Earlier this year, the Central government granted approval for an airport at Mamnoor in Telangana's Warangal.
Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu recently confirmed that AAI is prepared to undertake the airport project, which necessitates a minimum investment of Rs 500 crore.
He highlighted that the Mamnoor airport was the largest in the region during the pre-independence era, with operations continuing until 1981, after which it fell into neglect as development focused on the state capital, Hyderabad.
