Hyderabad, April 2 (NationPress) The Indian Air Force (IAF) has, in principle, consented to the Telangana government's proposal to initiate civil aircraft operations from the Adilabad airfield.

The Ministry of Defence has informed the state's Special Chief Secretary for the Transport, Roads, and Buildings Department of this approval.

It further mentioned that the request for developing Adilabad Airport for civil use was reviewed in collaboration with the IAF. The IAF plans to establish a training facility at that location in the future. Nevertheless, they considered the request and agreed, in principle, to the proposal for civil aircraft operations from the Adilabad airfield.

According to a communication from Sanap Bajirao Ramnath, Director IAF, "The airfield could be developed as a joint-use facility, with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) acquiring adjacent land for the civil terminal, aircraft parking apron, and other necessary infrastructure. The runway will require resurfacing, and the civil apron must be linked to the runway with taxi tracks."

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) may be asked to present a detailed proposal to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the IAF.

This development follows the Centre's approval for Mamnoor Airport in the Warangal district just a month prior.

Last month, Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy met with Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, urging him to expedite the pre-approval process for airports in Bhadradri-Kothagudem, Adilabad, Peddapalli, and Nizamabad.

Ram Mohan Naidu indicated that there are restrictions in some areas due to the activities of the Indian Air Force and the Ministry of Defence. Their permissions are necessary for constructing the airports, he stated during a press conference in Hyderabad on March 2.

Regarding the Bhadradri Kothagudem airport, the Civil Aviation Minister noted that the location previously identified by the state government was deemed unfeasible due to hilly terrain and geographical features. The state government then proposed an alternative site, and the AAI team, which conducted feasibility assessments, requested additional data from the India Meteorological Department and the state government.
