Hyderabad, Nov 3 (NationPress) The government of Telangana has initiated a thorough investigation into the tragic road accident that resulted in the loss of 20 lives and left many others injured in Rangareddy district on Monday.
Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, who promptly arrived at Chevella, informed reporters at the government hospital that a comprehensive probe has been launched concerning the collision between an RTC bus and a tipper truck.
He emphasized that the immediate focus of the government is to guarantee the best possible medical care for the injured and to provide full support to the families of the victims.
The transport minister noted that there were 72 individuals on board the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) bus, which was en route to Hyderabad from Tandur.
A tipper truck loaded with gravel collided with the bus on the Hyderabad-Bijapur highway near Mirzaguda in Chevella mandal, located approximately 60 km from Hyderabad.
Indicating that negligence on the part of the tipper driver may have caused the incident, Ponnam Prabhakar assured that action would follow the investigation.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy held a video conference with senior officials, instructing them to provide prompt assistance to the victims.
The transport minister stated that an official would be designated to assist each family of the deceased with the transportation of bodies and the completion of last rites.
Describing the accident as unfortunate and distressing, the minister expressed that this is not the appropriate time for political discussions.
He affirmed that road safety remains the government's top priority, with the transport department actively working to raise public awareness about road safety starting from schools.
“Despite the introduction of new regulations and ongoing inspections, we require the cooperation of the public to avoid accidents,” he stated.
Prabhakar highlighted that road accidents claim hundreds of lives daily across the country, and Telangana experiences fewer than 20 fatalities each day. He mentioned that the transport department is focused on eliminating hazardous zones on highways and implementing strict measures related to vehicle fitness and other safety concerns.
