Telangana school breakfast scheme: Central kitchens to launch on Dec 9
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday, 2 October 2026, announced that all central kitchens set up to deliver nutritious breakfasts to students in government schools will be formally inaugurated across the state on 9 December. He directed officials to ensure all kitchen construction and setup work is completed by 30 November.
Scale and Monitoring Framework
All central kitchens will be linked to the Integrated Command and Control Centre in Hyderabad for continuous oversight. The Chief Minister also instructed that arrangements be made for student visits to the kitchens, allowing children to see firsthand where their meals are prepared. The state-wide rollout reflects the government's intent to institutionalise the programme rather than treat it as a one-off welfare gesture.
Private Sector Backs the Scheme
Representatives of the Hare Krishna Foundation met Chief Minister Revanth Reddy at his Jubilee Hills residence on Friday. During the meeting, two companies formalised their support through agreements signed in the Chief Minister's presence.
Junna Solar Systems Private Limited CMD Shekhar Reddy and CEO Anil Babu handed over a cheque for ₹5.17 crore to the Hare Krishna Foundation for a centralised community kitchen in Nagarkurnool. Separately, Chain Labs India Private Limited representative Samantha Day and Vice-President B. Santosh Kumar contributed ₹4 crore for a modern centralised community kitchen in Vikarabad. Both companies also collaborated to establish these modern facilities in their respective districts.
What the Chief Minister Said
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy stressed that quality food must be served to every student, adding that the primary objective of the breakfast initiative is to provide nutritious meals while also improving school attendance. He called for regional dietary preferences to be reflected in the menu, and recommended the development of a dedicated application to calculate the calorie content of meals served.
He further called for maintaining comprehensive records of students enrolled in government schools, stating that such data would enable the state to track both physical growth and academic progress over time. Noting that this is a long-term programme, he emphasised the need for sustained attention to execution.
Who Was Present
The event was attended by Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, Rajya Sabha member Vem Narender Reddy, the Chief Minister's Principal Secretary S. Sridhar, and Hare Krishna Foundation representative Satya Gaura Chandra Das Swami, among others.
With combined private contributions of over ₹9 crore already secured and a firm inauguration date set, the Telangana government's school breakfast scheme is now moving from planning to full operational deployment ahead of the new year.
