Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Sunday, 13 September 2026, attributed the state's financial headstart at formation to the foresight of veteran Congress leader and former undivided Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K. Rosaiah. Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Arya Vysya Atma Gourava Bhavan — a community and cultural centre — at Uppal Bhagayath, Hyderabad, Revanth Reddy said that when Telangana was carved out on 2 June 2014, it inherited a surplus budget of ₹16,000 crore, a legacy he squarely credited to Rosaiah's stewardship.

Rosaiah's Record as Finance Steward

K. Rosaiah, who belongs to the Arya Vysya community, is regarded as one of the longest-serving Finance Ministers of undivided Andhra Pradesh, having presented the state Budget 16 times — including seven consecutive times. Revanth Reddy noted that former Chief Ministers Chenna Reddy, Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy, and Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy all entrusted the treasury to Arya Vysya leaders, with Rosaiah being the most prominent of them.

The Chief Minister added that it was the Indian National Congress that gave Rosaiah 'the opportunity and the respect he deserved,' framing the tribute as both a personal acknowledgement and a political statement ahead of future electoral cycles.

A Personal Bond Between Two Leaders

Revanth Reddy offered a rare personal recollection, revealing that Rosaiah recognised his political potential early in his career. When Revanth Reddy spoke aggressively in the Legislative Council, the veteran leader would reportedly pull him aside and counsel him to temper his tone and accumulate experience before reaching for greater heights. 'Rosaiah was not one to criticise harshly or use abusive language; instead, he would deliver sharp and witty remarks,' the Chief Minister said.

To honour that legacy, the Revanth Reddy government installed a statue of Rosaiah in the heart of Hyderabad. The Chief Minister addressed criticism of the installation directly: 'Some people criticised the installation of Rosaiah's statue in Hyderabad. He came to Hyderabad four decades ago and declared Hyderabad his home through thick and thin. Respecting his words, we installed the statue in Hyderabad.'

Spotlight on the Arya Vysya Community

The occasion allowed Revanth Reddy to speak at length about the Arya Vysya community's cultural and economic contributions. He described the community as 'gentle by nature' with a 'strong sense of self-respect' and said their 'foresight and prudence' were inherent traits. He noted that even in villages, Arya Vysya members extend informal credit — sometimes even for food — to the most economically vulnerable people around them.

The Chief Minister invoked Mahatma Gandhi — himself from the Arya Vysya community — as the community's most celebrated global figure. He also recalled the sacrifice of Potti Sriramulu, whose fast-unto-death paved the way for the formation of the state of Andhra Pradesh. Despite these contributions, Revanth Reddy argued that the Arya Vysya community has not received the recognition it deserves.

Government Support for the Bhavan

Revanth Reddy confirmed that the Telangana state government will provide financial assistance for the construction of the Arya Vysya Atma Gourava Bhavan. He stressed that the facility must serve the needs of underprivileged Arya Vysyas in particular, in line with the community's own ethos of dignity over charity. No specific outlay figure was announced at the event.
