Hyderabad, Aug 5 (NationPress) Disheartened by the refusal of a Cabinet position, Telangana Congress MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy declared on Tuesday that he is prepared for a "sacrifice" to benefit the residents of his constituency. The MLA representing Munugode in Nalgonda district mentioned that he was assured a Cabinet berth upon his return to Congress in 2023. However, he insisted that he is not vying for any personal gain.
Rajagopal Reddy, sibling of Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, explained that had he contested from LB Nagar, he would have likely secured the ministerial role; instead, he opted for Munugode for the betterment of his constituents.
"Becoming a minister would be advantageous for the people. Unlike others, I am not interested in obtaining a ministerial position through lobbying or for personal profit," he stated during a press conference.
He emphasized that if forced to choose between a ministerial role and the welfare of Munugode's citizens, he would prioritize the latter.
"Upon joining the party, I was promised a Cabinet berth. I am not one to seek wealth through the misuse of authority. My request for the ministerial position is not for selfish reasons; the people of Munugode believe that my ministership would benefit them," he added.
Rajagopal Reddy also claimed he was promised a Cabinet position contingent on his success in securing the Congress candidate's victory from Bhuvanagiri Lok Sabha constituency. "Ultimately, it is up to the party leadership to decide on my appointment. Those who switched from other parties and my juniors have been granted ministerial roles. I refuse to seek positions by flattering others," he remarked.
In response to his brother's comments, Venkat Reddy mentioned he was unaware of any promises made to Rajagopal Reddy regarding the Cabinet position. He also questioned the qualifications of those aspiring for the role.
Venkat Reddy clarified that appointing Rajagopal Reddy as a minister was beyond his authority.
Rajagopal Reddy had left Congress to join the BJP in 2022 to instigate a by-election for the Munugode seat but faced defeat against the TRS (now BRS) candidate. He returned to Congress shortly before the 2023 Assembly elections, secured a ticket, and was re-elected from the same constituency.
Following Congress's victory, Rajagopal Reddy openly expressed his ambition to serve as a minister, specifically aiming for the Home portfolio. However, he was not included in the Cabinet and was overlooked once more in June when Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expanded the Cabinet by adding three new ministers.
