Hyderabad, Feb 3 (NationPress) The single-member Judicial Commission, led by retired High Court judge Justice Shameem Akhtar, is poised to present its findings regarding the sub-classification of Scheduled Castes (SCs) to the Telangana Cabinet Sub-Committee. This report is deemed essential for ensuring fair resource allocation among SC communities and will be discussed in the Cabinet meeting scheduled for Tuesday.

The Sub-Committee was formed on September 12, 2024, with Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy serving as Chairman and Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha as co-chairman, following a Supreme Court directive to address the sub-classification of SCs.

Committee members include Ministers D. Seethakka, Ponnam Prabhakar, D. Sridhar Babu, and MP Mallu Ravi.

Consequent to the Sub-Committee's recommendation, the state government constituted a one-member judicial commission, overseen by Justice Akhtar, in October.

The Commission examined various dimensions of the topic and compiled its report. This report will be evaluated by the Cabinet Sub-Committee, which will subsequently present its recommendations to the Cabinet.

The findings from the Commission and the Sub-Committee’s suggestions will be presented at the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

On October 8, the Cabinet Sub-Committee advised the state Cabinet to appoint a judicial commission to investigate sub-classification within the SC reserved categories.

The commission was tasked with evaluating intra-backwardness among different castes within the SCs.

The Cabinet Sub-Committee requested sub-caste-wise employment data of SCs from various recruitment boards in the state, including TSPSC, TGLPRB, SCCL, MHSRB, and the Transmission Corporation.

The committee received 1,082 representations from various communities, organizations, and individuals concerning sub-categorization. Teams from the state also visited Punjab and Tamil Nadu to analyze how sub-classification is implemented in those regions.

The Judicial Commission reviewed the ruling from the seven-judge Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court regarding the sub-classification within the SC reserved categories.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed support for the Supreme Court's August 1 ruling and announced in the state Assembly that Telangana would be the first state to put it into action.

The Chief Minister also indicated that if necessary, the government would consider issuing an ordinance to enforce the Supreme Court's order on job notifications already released.
