Hyderabad, March 19 (NationPress) Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy stated on Wednesday that his administration is committed to delivering justice to Scheduled Castes (SCs) through sub-categorisation.
The day after the Assembly passed a Bill for sub-categorisation of SCs, aimed at ensuring a fair distribution of reservations, leaders and representatives from various SC organizations met with the Chief Minister to express their appreciation.
He noted that the 'people's government' has addressed the long-standing demand for SC sub-categorisation within a year of taking office.
Revanth Reddy emphasized that the previous administration failed to resolve this matter during its decade-long governance.
He further mentioned that he, along with several other MLAs, faced suspension from the Assembly for advocating for sub-categorisation.
The Chief Minister urged all SC organizations to thank Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for realizing the aspirations of the SC communities.
"Without the support of Rahul Gandhi Ji, I would not have the capacity to achieve a lasting solution to the enduring demand for SC categorisation," Revanth Reddy remarked.
He added that the government established a one-man Commission on sub-categorisation to prevent future legal complications.
The Commission presented a 199-page report to the state government, leading to the division of SCs into three categories for reservation purposes, according to the Chief Minister.
He clarified that the SC sub-categorisation is not intended to undermine any community.
He asserted that the state government made compelling arguments in the Supreme Court and diligently worked for a favorable ruling regarding SC categorisation.
He noted that no other state in the country has implemented the Supreme Court's judgment, making Telangana the first to do so.
He highlighted that even states governed by the BJP have not enacted the Supreme Court order.
After the Supreme Court's ruling, Revanth Reddy stated that his government initiated the formal process to comply with the apex court's directive and sought a resolution to the legitimate demand.
The Chief Minister also announced the appointment of Kumar Moglaram, from the Madiga community, as Osmania University Vice-Chancellor (V-C).
This marks the first occasion in a century that an individual from the SC community has held the V-C position, Revanth Reddy noted.
He added that the government prioritized the Madiga community in appointments within the Council of Higher Education, the Public Service Commission, and the Education Commission.
He assured the SC community that more opportunities will be made available to them in the future.
