Hathras, Jan 5 (NationPress) Three additional suspects connected to the kidnapping of a private telecom firm manager were taken into custody following a brief encounter with the police in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras on Sunday.
According to Hathras SP Chiranjeev Nath Singh, during a routine patrol on Ruheri cut in the Thana Hathras police station area, officers attempted to stop three individuals on a motorcycle. Instead of complying, they accelerated in an attempt to escape and opened fire on the police, who returned fire.
In the exchange of gunfire, two of the suspects sustained leg injuries, while another was apprehended during subsequent searches.
The apprehended individuals were identified as Prashant from Bulandshahr, Anshul from Hathras, and Prince alias Virendra from Almora, Uttarakhand.
Both Prashant and Anshul, who were injured in the encounter, were promptly transported to the district hospital.
Upon initial investigation, it was revealed that Prashant has four prior criminal cases against him.
The police recovered two country-made pistols, cartridges, and a motorcycle from the suspects.
On Saturday, a collaborative effort by police from Moradabad, Hathras, and the Special Task Force led to the rescue of Abhinav Bhardwaj, the kidnapped telecom manager, after a brief confrontation with the suspects.
Bhardwaj, who was based in Hathras, was abducted by the suspects on January 1.
When Bhardwaj did not return home, his family initiated a search and filed a missing person report.
The suspects contacted Bhardwaj's family, demanding Rs 20 lakh and threatened to kill him if their demands were not met.
“On Saturday, Bhardwaj was freed from his captors following a brief encounter in Moradabad,” police confirmed.
The police recovered Rs 50,000 in cash, a mobile phone, and other items from the suspects.
The kidnappers had purportedly demanded the ransom in the name of notorious criminal Tillu Tajpuria.
