Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, Nov 4 (NationPress) The local police have apprehended a woman along with nine accomplices in connection with the kidnapping of her husband for ransom.
Authorities revealed on Tuesday that M. Madhavi Latha, aged 55, serves as the primary suspect in this case. She allegedly engaged another individual to abduct her husband, Mantri Shyam, following the sale of ancestral property valued at Rs 20 crore.
Shyam was taken hostage in the Amberpet neighborhood on October 29. He managed to flee from his captors on October 31, coinciding with the ongoing police search for the abductors. Based on the victim's testimony, the police initiated a case and subsequently arrested those involved.
According to B. Bala Swamy, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (East Zone), four additional suspects are currently evading capture.
The police stated that Madhavi had promised the abductors a sum of Rs 1 crore for their involvement. It was noted that Shyam and Madhavi had been living apart for the past three years.
After receiving a report of a missing person, police established specialized teams to locate Shyam, gathering technical evidence, and launching a thorough investigation.
Reports indicate that the kidnappers transported him across various vehicles to Vijayawada on October 30, demanding Rs. 10 lakhs for his freedom. The following day, they returned him to Hyderabad to withdraw the ransom from a bank located in Banjara Hills, but the victim escaped before any ransom was exchanged.
Investigations uncovered that the primary suspect aimed to seize the victim's properties by obtaining his signature and ultimately eliminating him, while the other accomplices sought to extract ransom from the victim.
Madhavi had enlisted Durga Vinay and others to monitor and subsequently abduct Shyam for ransom. Together with Durga Prasad and ten others, they executed the kidnapping on October 29 from DD Colony under the jurisdiction of the Amberpet police.
Police revealed that three principal suspects orchestrated the kidnapping. Durga Prasad coordinated the henchmen, conducted reconnaissance at DD Colony, rented an apartment adjacent to the victim's residence, and monitored his every move before executing their kidnap plan. However, their efforts to collect ransom were thwarted when the victim escaped.
