Jammu, Jan 25 (NationPress) A significant search operation was initiated on Saturday following an attack by terrorists on an Army camp in Jammu and Kashmir’s (J&K) Kathua district.

Sources from the Defence Ministry noted that suspicious activity was detected in the Bhatodi area of Kathua late on Friday evening.

“A gunfight ensued after the Army responded to the suspicious movements in the Bhatodi area of Kathua district,” they reported.

“A widespread search operation is currently underway in the area,” the sources added.

Reports from the region indicate that security forces have commenced an extensive search operation in Kathua district following the terrorist assault on the Army camp late Friday night.

“The terrorists fired upon the Army camp situated in Bhatodi village of Billawar tehsil, prompting soldiers to retaliate, leading to the terrorists fleeing the scene. The area has been secured and a thorough search operation is in progress to locate the terrorists,” local reports confirmed.

This incident has taken place just a day before the nation’s Republic Day celebrations, for which enhanced security measures have been implemented across J&K.

The primary Republic Day event will be held at the Maulana Azad Memorial Stadium in Jammu, where Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will hoist the national flag and review the parade alongside Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who will serve as the chief guest.

In the Valley, divisional level events and parades are scheduled to take place at the Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar, presided over by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary.

Exceptional security measures have been established in Jammu and Srinagar to safeguard the venues for the Republic Day flag hoisting and parades.

All high-rise buildings near Maulana Azad Stadium in Jammu and Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar are under the watch of sharp-shooters from security forces.
