What is Happening in the Cordon and Search Operations in J&K’s Rajouri?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jammu, Dec 19 (NationPress) On Friday, joint security forces initiated extensive searches in multiple villages situated in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir due to reports of suspicious activities in the area, according to officials.
The operation involves a coordinated effort among the J&K Police, the Special Operations Group (SOG), the Indian Army, and the CRPF. These forces commenced their search operations following the intelligence reports.
"The searches began around midnight after security personnel received alerts regarding suspicious movements in villages between the Thanamandi and Manjakote subdivisions of Rajouri. The Army's Rashtriya Rifles, alongside the J&K Police and the SOG, have cordoned off these villages to conduct thorough searches. The operation is ongoing in these locations and the neighboring Behroti Gali area as well," an official stated.
“There have been no reports of engagement between the joint forces and any terrorists thus far,” the official added.
Previously, on December 15, joint forces conducted a similar cordon and search operation in the Udhampur district due to reports of suspicious movements. This operation led to a fierce encounter with terrorists on December 16, resulting in the martyrdom of one policeman and injuries to a terrorist.
Intelligence inputs indicated the possible presence of 2 to 3 terrorists linked to the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terror group in the area.
After a prolonged gunfight, the terrorists reportedly fled into a nearby forest area adjacent to the village. Although the operation extended into the forest, no further contact was made with the terrorists.
The initial encounter took place in Soan village, located within the Majalta area of Udhampur. The fallen policeman was identified as Amjad Ali Khan.
Joint forces continue to execute aggressive anti-terrorism operations across J&K, targeting not only terrorists but also their overground workers (OGWs) and supporters.
This initiative is part of a revamped strategy aimed at dismantling the entire support network for terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
Additionally, drug smugglers and those implicated in hawala money operations are also under scrutiny, as it is believed that the proceeds from these illicit activities are used to fund terrorism.
