Thiruvananthapuram, March 26 (NationPress) Congress Lok Sabha member Shashi Tharoor on Wednesday criticized the CPI(M)-led Left administration in Kerala regarding the procrastination in allowing private universities to establish themselves in the state, arguing that they are rooted in a 19th-century ideology, and may only transition to the 21st century in the 22nd.

On his social media, Tharoor stated, “So Kerala’s LDF government has finally done the correct thing by approving the opening of private universities in the state. As is often the case, this decision comes approximately 15 to 20 years too late, which is typical of those stuck in a 19th-century mindset.”

“Let’s not forget that when computers were first introduced in India, Communist activists entered public sector offices to destroy them. The only political parties opposing the rollout of mobile phones in India were also the communist factions. They took years to understand that the true beneficiaries of these advancements were the everyday citizens, the very people they claim to represent. I’m confident they will eventually catch up to the 21st century, but it might only happen in the 22nd!” remarked Tharoor.

Interestingly, Tharoor’s recent remarks follow a previous post where he commended both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Tharoor recently expressed that he was left with “egg on his face” for opposing India's position during the onset of the Russia-Ukraine war, and due to the adopted policy, the nation is now positioned to contribute to lasting peace. “... three years later, it seems I am the one with the egg on my face because the policy has resulted in India having a Prime Minister who can embrace both the president of Ukraine and the president in Moscow within a fortnight and be welcomed in both countries,” he stated.

This stirred significant reactions within the Congress party, leading to a direct meeting with Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi.

Eventually, tensions eased, and during a high-level conference of Congress leaders from Kerala convened by the party's high command, it was explicitly instructed to Tharoor to temper his statements, particularly on social media.

Despite being a four-time Lok Sabha representative for the Thiruvananthapuram constituency, Tharoor has often found himself at odds with state party leaders and lower-tier leaders, who frequently criticize him for not engaging directly with them, preferring to communicate through his office only.
