How Did Shashi Tharoor's Delegation Enhance Anti-Terror Cooperation with Brazil?

Brasilia, June 3 (NationPress) An inclusive Indian Parliamentary delegation, spearheaded by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, engaged in a productive dialogue with Brazil's Acting Foreign Minister Maria Laura da Rocha. The discussions centered on fortifying cooperation in the realms of anti-terrorism, multilateralism, and shared democratic values between the two nations.

On Monday, the delegation expressed gratitude to Brazil for its understanding of India's position against terrorism, particularly regarding the insights shared about the Pahalgam terror attack that occurred on April 22.

In a post shared on the social media platform X, the Indian Embassy in Brazil stated: "A high-level All-Party Delegation led by MP Shashi Tharoor met with Acting Foreign Minister of Brazil, Ambassador Maria Laura da Rocha. They conveyed thanks to Brazil for its understanding against terrorism, exchanged views on the Pahalgam attack, and discussed strengthening cooperation on anti-terrorism, multilateralism, and democratic values."

Earlier, the delegation also met with Brazilian Senator Nelson Trad Filho, President of the India-Brazil Friendship Front in the Federal Senate, where they addressed the issue of cross-border terrorism, highlighting the Pahalgam incident.

The delegation reaffirmed India's bipartisan commitment and expressed appreciation for Brazil's support in the global struggle against terrorism.

This nine-member delegation, which included notable MPs from various parties, had just concluded a successful visit to Guyana, Panama, and Colombia before arriving in Brazil for a two-day engagement.

As part of India's ongoing efforts to enhance global collaboration in combating terrorism, particularly in light of Operation Sindoor and its continuous fight against cross-border terrorism, the high-level delegation arrived in Brazil on Sunday evening (local time).

The Indian delegation also discussed the necessity for stronger international cooperation against terrorism, alongside mutual commitments to peace, security, and democratic principles. They thanked Brazil for its ongoing support in this critical fight.

In another post on X, the Indian Embassy announced the arrival of Dinesh Bhatia, Ambassador-Designate of India to Brazil, who was warmly welcomed by Andre Saboia, a senior representative of Brazil's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On Monday, MP Tharoor shared on X: "Our day in Brasilia begins with a visit to the Presidential Palace, where we met my longtime friend, the Diplomatic Advisor to the President, Ambassador Celso Amorim. A comprehensive discussion ensued."

Tharoor's delegation met with Senator Nelsinho Trad, President of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, where they engaged in a thorough discussion, with the Senator pledging full support to India.

Furthermore, Tharoor and the delegation conversed with Celso Amorim, Chief Adviser to the President of Brazil, who emphasized Brazil's condemnation of terrorism and its support for India.

The Indian delegation also briefed their Brazilian counterparts on the latest developments in India, particularly following the abhorrent terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, in Jammu and Kashmir.

In summary, the delegation reiterated India's strong commitment and resolve in fighting terrorism in all its forms and affirmed the country's stance of zero tolerance towards cross-border terrorism.
