Vijayawada, March 24 (NationPress) - The Andhra Pradesh Police have apprehended three young individuals from Vijayawada on Tuesday due to their alleged affiliations with terrorist organizations.
The Counter-Intelligence Cell detained Mohammad Rahamatullah Sharif, age 23, Md. Danish, age 27, and Mirza Sohail Baig, age 23, for purportedly advocating extremist beliefs via social media.
These individuals are believed to have connections with both ISIS and AQIS and are accused of establishing a group named ‘Al Malik Islamic Youth’ aimed at radicalizing younger generations. They reportedly disseminated messages that called for the national flag to be replaced with the ISIS flag.
Authorities apprehended the trio close to their home in the Wynchipeta area and conducted thorough searches, recovering electronic devices and items deemed incriminating, as confirmed by police sources.
Following their arrest, the trio was presented before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, which ordered their detention until April 6. They have since been transferred to the Vijayawada Central Prison.
During the court proceedings, the judge inquired if the accused had secured legal representation. Upon their response indicating they had not, the judge requested they document this in writing.
A case has been lodged against them under several provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Information Technology Act at the Vijayawada Two Town Police Station.
The accused are suspected of being in contact with their handlers in Pakistan and utilizing social media platforms to influence and radicalize youth, particularly through Instagram, Telegram, and others to engage in terrorist activities.
The Counter-Intelligence Cell conducted this operation following persistent monitoring of online radical content and credible information suggesting that the accused were receiving financial support from Pakistan to recruit individuals for terrorist purposes.
They are believed to have assembled a network of ten young people not only from Andhra Pradesh but from various regions across the country, as they are suspected of promoting extremist ideologies through online channels on a national scale.
The police are continuing their investigation to further examine the accused's connections with terrorist groups.
