Vijayawada, Feb 10 (NationPress) Authorities in Andhra Pradesh’s NTR district apprehended three suspects on Monday for the alleged rape and blackmailing of a young engineering student.
The individuals were brought before a court, which has placed them in judicial custody for a duration of 14 days.
The arrests followed a complaint lodged by the 19-year-old B.Tech student at the Nandigama Rural police station.
As per law enforcement, the victim was residing in a hostel in Paritala while pursuing her second year at an engineering institution in Kanchikacherla within the NTR district.
The individuals taken into custody are identified as Shaik Gali Saida, Shaik Hussain, and Chintala Prabhu Kumar.
The victim had developed a close relationship with her classmate Prabhu Kumar, with whom she frequently dined out. Recently, Prabhu Kumar introduced his friend Hussain to her. Shortly after, Hussain began to pursue her and invited her for lunch.
Saida, a local painter and known as a social media activist for the YSR Congress Party, also became acquainted with the girl, advising her to avoid Hussain and Prabhu, whom he described as ill-intentioned.
On January 12, Saida invited the girl to an event at his residence. Upon her arrival, she found that he was alone. He then sexually assaulted her, capturing explicit photos and videos, which he later shared with Hussain and Prabhu.
Following this, Hussain and Prabhu began to blackmail her using these materials, demanding sexual favors. Overwhelmed by the harassment, the victim decided to report the incident to the police.
In response to her complaint, law enforcement initiated an investigation and arrested all three suspects on Monday. They were subsequently presented to the court, which ordered their detention for two weeks.
The suspects were later transferred to a sub-jail.
