Dharamsala, Jan 26 (NationPress) The Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) marked the occasion of India’s 76th Republic Day on Sunday, honoring the date in 1950 when India’s Constitution was enacted.
The festivities were graced by officiating Sikyong Tharlam Dolma Changra, the Minister for Education, Deputy Speaker Dolma Tsering Teykhang, Minister for Information and International Relations Norzin Dolma, along with senior officials, including CTA Secretaries.
After the flag-hoisting ceremony, Changra conveyed sincere greetings to the Indian government and its citizens on behalf of the Tibetan populace.
In her speech, Dolma remarked, “Republic Day, celebrated annually on 26 January, signifies the moment India embraced its Constitution in 1950. It is a day of great national pride, representing India’s democratic principles and the values of justice, liberty, and equality enshrined in the Constitution.”
She expressed deep appreciation on behalf of Tibetans living in exile and those in Tibet, stating, “We, the Tibetan community, extend our warm greetings to the Government of India and its citizens on this significant day. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama has consistently urged us to show our gratitude to India for its steadfast support and for welcoming the Tibetan community in exile.”
Dolma underscored India’s democratic ethos, highlighting that “India serves as a remarkable model of democracy for neighboring countries. Since achieving Independence, India has experienced smooth leadership transitions and the advancement of its Constitution, promoting inclusivity and development.”
She further celebrated India’s unity in diversity, asserting, “With its extensive population, multitude of languages, religions, and cultures across its regions, India showcases the essence of democracy, and the nation should take pride in this legacy.” The celebration culminated with the serving of tea and doughnuts to all participants, creating a warm and festive ambiance as the Tibetan community expressed their gratitude and solidarity towards India on this significant occasion.
