TN BJP Demands Appointment of a Dedicated Home Minister to Combat Rising Crime Rates

Chennai, Dec 31 (NationPress) A.N.S. Prasad, a prominent spokesperson and senior leader of the Tamil Nadu BJP, has advocated for the appointment of a dedicated home minister to address the escalating crime rates in the state.
The Chief Minister M.K. Stalin currently oversees the home portfolio alongside other crucial departments such as Public, General Administration, Indian Administrative Service, Indian Police Service, Indian Forest Service, Other All India Service, District Revenue Officers, Police, Special Initiatives, and Welfare of Differently-Abled Persons.
In his remarks, the BJP leader criticized the Tamil Nadu Police's inefficacy under DMK leadership, highlighting the troubling Anna University sexual harassment incident as a key example. He pointed out that the surge in criminal activities has turned the state into a hub of violence.
Prasad emphasized that administrative failures due to mismanagement and incompetence have undermined public confidence in the state police, highlighting the pressing need for comprehensive reform. The actions and attempts at concealment by the Tamil Nadu Police have eroded public trust.
In a pointed inquiry directed at the Chennai city Police Commissioner, he questioned, "Who was the accused conversing with at the time of the crime?"
He further accused the Chennai Police of attempting to obscure the investigation, which has contributed to the public's diminishing faith in law enforcement.
To restore public confidence, Prasad asserted that Chief Minister Stalin must appoint a dedicated Home Minister, enact reforms to ensure accountability, and create a separate court to handle cases involving police personnel.
According to the BJP leader, these measures will help transform the police into a symbol of integrity, duty, and protection for citizens' rights, ensuring they operate with transparency and accountability.
Prasad criticized the DMK government for prioritizing the upcoming 2026 elections and party functions over the welfare of the citizens. He argued that effective governance necessitates accountability and transparency.
He reiterated that the revitalization of the police force requires a dedicated Home Minister, accountability reforms, and a separate court for police-related cases. This revitalization will reinforce justice, uphold citizens' rights, and promote democratic values.
Additionally, he urged the Tamil Nadu government to tackle the alarming rise in various crimes, including murder, robbery, rape, theft, and bootlegging.
ANS Prasad concluded by stating that Chief Minister Stalin must focus on citizens' safety and welfare, asserting that the appointment of a dedicated Home Minister and the implementation of reforms are essential for revitalizing the Tamil Nadu Police, thus upholding justice and safeguarding citizens' rights.
