Chennai, Dec 31 (NationPress) The Tamil Nadu branch of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has formally requested the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to take suo motu cognisance regarding the violent attack on a 20-year-old youth from Odisha, which occurred in Tiruttani. The party condemned the incident as a significant breach of human rights and a troubling indication of the escalating lawlessness in the region.

The victim, K. Suraj from Kalahandi district in Odisha, was reportedly assaulted on December 27 near the Tiruttani railway station by four juveniles, estimated to be around 17 years old.

Preliminary reports suggest that Suraj had come to Chennai due to a family dispute and was using a suburban train when the attackers allegedly intimidated him and forced him off the train.

He was subsequently taken to a deserted area adjacent to the old railway quarters, where he endured a brutal assault involving sickles, with the assailants reportedly documenting the incident on their mobile devices.

Suraj incurred severe injuries to his head, face, and hands, leading to his initial admission at the Tiruttani Government Hospital, before being transferred to the Tiruvallur Government Medical College Hospital for more extensive treatment.

The police later apprehended the four juveniles near the Gangai Amman temple and seized the weapons utilized in the attack.

A case has been filed under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (attempt to murder). Three of the assailants were placed in a juvenile home, while one was released into parental custody.

North Zone Inspector General of Police Asra Garg indicated that initial investigations imply the incident arose from a personal conflict, not from any regional or linguistic hostility.

He also clarified that rumors regarding the victim's death were unfounded and mentioned that investigations are ongoing to determine if the attackers were under the influence of drugs or alcohol during the incident.

In a comprehensive appeal to the NHRC, TN BJP spokesperson A.N.S. Prasad called for intervention, voicing serious concerns about how the case was being managed.

The complaint outlines alleged deficiencies in delivering prompt psychological support to the victim, raises questions about the adequacy of medical and forensic procedures, and addresses the broader issue of rising juvenile violence driven by substance abuse and the glorification of violence on social media.

The BJP has urged the NHRC to mandate an independent and thorough investigation, guarantee adequate compensation and rehabilitation for the victim, and recommend systematic measures to avert such occurrences in the future.

The party emphasized that events like this jeopardize the safety of migrant workers and undermine the constitutional guarantees of dignity, equality, and protection for all citizens.
