Chennai, Sep 22 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tamil Nadu on Sunday ardently supported Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent GST reforms while accusing the Congress-led INDIA bloc, which includes Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, of spreading misinformation and misleading the public for political advantage.

In a statement, BJP state spokesperson A.N.S. Prasad asserted that the Congress and its allies have been relentlessly disseminating false information regarding GST, overlooking its transformative effects.

“Their unfounded criticisms, lacking constructive alternatives, reveal a political naivety and a blatant indifference to the welfare of 140 crore Indians,” he remarked.

Prasad praised PM Modi’s address on the eve of Navratri and the introduction of the Next Generation GST reforms, which took effect on September 22, calling it a “historic milestone” that aligns with the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

The reforms streamline tax slabs to 5 percent and 18 percent, eliminating the complexities of the pre-2017 tax system and alleviating the cost of living for millions of families.

“By shifting 99 percent of items from the 12 percent to 5 percent category and exempting incomes up to Rs 12 lakh, the government guarantees annual savings exceeding Rs 2.5 lakh crore. This dual relief empowers the poor, middle class, and neo-middle class to fulfill their dreams, whether it's purchasing homes, vehicles, or enjoying affordable travel,” Prasad elaborated.

He further noted that the new GST framework strengthens micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), which are the economic backbone of India, by lessening compliance burdens and fostering innovation.

PM Modi’s call for self-reliance, Prasad stated, would motivate MSMEs to produce world-class products, reduce reliance on imports, and position India as a global manufacturing leader.

Emphasizing the Prime Minister’s “Swadeshi call”, Prasad mentioned that the reforms revive the spirit of the freedom struggle. “By embracing Made in India products, every household and business becomes a symbol of indigenous pride,” he remarked.

The BJP spokesperson characterized the GST reforms as a “Diwali gift” under the GST Bachat Utsav banner, benefiting farmers, entrepreneurs, and everyday citizens alike.

He added that these initiatives not only simplify business operations and attract investments but also bolster cooperative federalism by making states equal partners in India’s growth narrative.

“Prime Minister Modi’s leadership has ignited an economic renaissance. The GST Bachat Utsav is a celebration of savings and a stride towards a developed, self-reliant Bharat,” Prasad expressed, conveying gratitude on behalf of “140 crore citizens”.

Point of View

I observe that the ongoing debate around PM Modi’s GST reforms highlights the diverging approaches of political parties towards economic governance. While the BJP emphasizes growth and empowerment for citizens, the opposition raises concerns about misinformation. This discourse is crucial for the nation’s democratic fabric, and it is essential that both sides engage constructively.
