Key Takeaways
Chennai, Feb 18 (NationPress) This year, over 17 lakh students from Tamil Nadu are set to participate in the Class 10 and Class 12 public examinations, as the School Education Department intensifies efforts to guarantee a smooth and transparent examination process.
The School Education Minister, Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, led a high-level review meeting with senior officials on Tuesday to evaluate the preparations and mitigate any irregularities.
According to the school education department's statement, 8,27,475 students are anticipated to take the Class 12 exams, which includes 27,783 private candidates.
For Class 10, 9,09,002 students are expected to appear, including 26,196 private candidates.
Moreover, 25,051 students will sit for the Class 11 arrear examinations, with 5,944 being private candidates.
The Class 12 board exams are scheduled from March 2 to March 26, while Class 10 exams will take place from March 11 to April 6.
In a bid to enhance educational access, 281 prison inmates will write the Class 12 exams and 395 inmates will take the Class 10 exams this year.
To ensure an efficient examination process, approximately 49,000 teachers will be on duty each day, and over 4,900 flying squad members will oversee examination centers to deter malpractice.
In response to last year's concerns regarding the misuse of the scribe facility for students with disabilities, the Minister has introduced a new system where trained volunteers will act as scribes, replacing subject teachers. This initiative aims to prevent ineligible candidates from misusing the facility and allows teachers to focus on their invigilation responsibilities.
Students will also gain from innovative academic support measures, such as a newly designed A4-sized logarithmic table book featuring larger fonts for examination use.
This year, candidates taking Accountancy will be permitted to use simple non-programmable calculators.
To confirm the residential information of private candidates and ensure they sit for their exams in their respective districts, an Aadhaar-based verification system has been implemented, with details updated in the database.
Addressing teachers' requests, the Minister mentioned that the proposal for installing CCTV cameras in examination centers is under consideration.
With improved monitoring, technological safeguards, and reforms aimed at benefiting students, the state is committed to conducting the 2026 board examinations fairly and effectively.
