Chennai, July 7 (NationPress) In an important move for promoting social equity and unity among the youth, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin revealed that all student hostels managed by various government departments throughout the state will now be referred to as ‘Social Justice Hostels’.
This initiative, according to the Chief Minister, embodies the fundamental values of the Dravidian Model government and aims to lay a robust groundwork for a fair society.
“The renaming is more than a mere formality,” CM Stalin stated, “but is part of a larger strategy to eliminate caste-based discrimination and promote a sense of solidarity among the youth.”
This decision stemmed from the recommendations of the Justice K. Chandru Commission, a solo panel formed by the state government to explore methods for removing caste identifiers in educational settings.
The Commission suggested the removal of caste-related names and symbols, along with the integration of a curriculum focused on inclusive education. In response to these recommendations, the government has resolved to rename all 2,739 hostels that serve school and college students to ‘Social Justice Hostels’.

Hostels that are already named after notable leaders will keep their titles, but will have ‘Social Justice Hostel’ appended, the Chief Minister clarified.
