Tamil Nadu Government Launches Initiatives for Women's Education and Empowerment: CM Stalin

Chennai, Jan 2 (NationPress) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin stated on Thursday that his administration is implementing numerous initiatives aimed at fostering education and social advancement for women.

During the inauguration of the Kalaignar Women’s Skill Development Centre in Saidapet, Stalin underlined that the state government is dedicated to empowering women and eliminating their marginalization.

This statement follows criticisms from the opposition concerning women’s safety in Tamil Nadu, particularly in light of the recent sexual assault incident involving a second-year engineering student at Anna University.

Stalin remarked: "Our Dravidian model government has been creating and executing various welfare initiatives aimed at women’s development, including job reservations for women in government positions, the establishment of self-help groups, and ensuring women receive an equal share in ancestral property. We are also focused on enhancing women’s participation in higher education through our educational initiatives for women."

He pointed out significant programs such as the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai, Vidiyal Payanam, Thozhi Hostels for Women, and the Pudhumai Penn Scheme, which are designed to educate women, create job opportunities, and empower them to attain leadership roles.

The Chief Minister reaffirmed his government’s conviction that societal advancement is intrinsically linked to women’s progress.

"Tamil Nadu is progressing towards transformation by empowering women and abolishing their subjugation. These initiatives have been crafted and executed to realize that vision," he declared.

He also reflected on the Dravidian movement’s commitment to equality.

"A central aim of the Dravidian movement was to realize gender equality. Our government, motivated by the legacy of Anna (founder of DMK and former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai) and Kalaignar (party patriarch and former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi) and the principles advocated by Thanthai Periyar, has rolled out various plans to uphold women’s rights and development."

The event was attended by Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian, HR&CE Minister P.K. Sekar Babu, Greater Chennai Corporation Mayor Priya Rajan, and South Chennai MP Tamilachi Thangapandian.
